Catcher in The Rye

Post by NateMaxwell on 13th September 2013, 7:49 pm

Now I know upon seeing the title "Catcher in The Rye", the first thing many of you will do is cringe and say "DIRTY BOOK DIRTY BOOK BURN IT WITH FIRE FOR JESUS!". However, from a literary aspect, it is one of my favorite books of all time. Foul-mouthed, angsty Holden Caufield is the hero of a generation; Although he swears frequently and is sexually confused, what he really is is a boy on the edge of mental and emotional breakdown. The book's themes of loneliness and longing for a return of childhood innocence echo throughout the many non-believers I've met at school (Yes, I *GASP* go to a Public High School and happen to enjoy it)

What are your thoughts on Catcher, Holden, and the book's literary impact?
