Good Friday

Post by Marvin W. on 29th March 2013, 8:31 am

Today is Good Friday. It is commonly accepted that about 2000 years ago today, Jesus dies for our sins. It's a tradition here in Bermuda to fly kites on Good Friday, symbolizing that Jesus didn't stay dead, but rose again. So my church has an even where everyone comes and flys kites on the church field. It's not just the churches that do it; hundreds of kites are flown all over the island. It's pretty cool to drive around and look at all of the kites. Anyone else do anything for Good Friday?

Those kites sound cool. If it was good enough weather for that here, I'd give it a try. But, alas, my kite is grounded for now.

I usually read over the passages in the gospel that cover Jesus' death, stopping just before he rises. It would be a very depressing read if he didn't come back.

Just think for a moment... what if He didn't rise from the dead? Would we even care to remember this day?

It sounds really cool with all of those kites!

I don't normally do anything specific. Sometimes I read about Jesus' death. Reading about Jesus' agony in the garden especially draws my attention. I love to read about it. Maybe it's because it gives me a view of how much love and sacrifice He gave. Reading about His agony makes me feel close to Him. While I can't ever fully comprehend what He must have felt, I can relate somewhat, because He was human, and I am human. He had the feelings and emotions that any human would feel under the circumstances, and yet He also had full obedience and submission to the Father.

That must have been tough. Having all our feelings (minus the sin nature), knowing what was to come, and going in willingly.

Btw, I moved this topic to the Easter House.

We Catholics at least from 12:00 to 3:00 on Good Friday close our stores, go to church, pray, read the bible, and don't eat anything. It's to remember the time Jesus spent hungry on the cross.
