What Book Are You Currently Reading?

Post by Pound Foolish on 28th July 2012, 7:26 pm

First topic message reminder :

At the moment, I'm working on Emma and The Picture of Dorian Gray. They intrigue me. Oscar Wilde's wit shines as always in Dorian, so far, and his characters in here are, to me, some of his best.

A friend loaned me a book called Horse Tales from Heaven. It has a bunch of stories about a girl in her twenties working as a trail guide.

That is so weird. I have a friend named Dorian Gray. But anyway...

The book I am currently reading is a book on TV and why it is inherently bad, specifically for kids. It isn't something I really want to read, it is for a speech tournament.

But the book I am reading for personal enjoyment is Risk, by Brock D. Eastman.

It's a really touching story. I can't wait to finish it! When my head condition is better I shall finish it Smile When I start school on Monday I'll write a list of all the books I'm reading as well Smile Trust me Charlotte Mason learners read a lot of books in one year!!

I read that book and it amazed me! Not many people are willing to give up their comfortable lives here in America to help people in poverty. What's the matter with your head?

I just finished reading Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry. It was okay, not as good as The Giver.

How was it good? When I listened to it being advertised it sounded kind of corny.

It is the second book in it's series, and it takes place in a time with technology like in star wars, only there is no Force, or dark side, or lightsabers. It is basically about these kids, whose parents are archaeologists, and the parents get kidnapped by a man who wants them to find an artifact, which is believe to give eternal life, or something along those lines. So in a sense, it is also like Indiana Jones.

Anyway, the parents get kidnapped, but the 4 kids get away, and they are traveling around the galaxy trying to find out why their parents were taken, and where they are now.

I'm planning to read that book. I just never get around to checking it out from the library. But I've listened to the Radio Theatre version.

I really like the Radio Theatre version, but it's a little different from the book.

I am now reading The Bible, (I'm on Leviticus) The Hitchiker's Guide To the Galaxy, The Hobbit, and I will be starting Mere Christianity very soon. I'm also writing some various things.

I was wondering what the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is about. I've heard my cousin say it's really good.

The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel
&
Cold-Case Christianity by Jim Warner Wallace

The first is an incredible book written by a journalist who interviews the experts in fields such as ancient text annalists, historians, etc. to debunk much of the "higher criticism" claiming that Jesus was only pretending to be God, or that the Bible is unreliable, etc. GREAT BOOK!!!

The second is another incredible book in which a cold-case detective takes you through and teaches you the principles and methods homicide detectives use to solve cold cases, and then applies those same rules to the Bible. Wonderful book! Definitely a page-turner!
